Angels And Guardian Angels

May 30th, 2008 Deby Posted in Religion No Comments »

Angels.

Angels are messengers of the Lord and are spoken of in Hebrews as “ministering spirits”. In the New Testament Angels appear as ministers of God. Such as in Luke 1:5-25 when the angel Gabriel announced the birth of John the Baptist and told Elisabeth that her son would prepare the way for the Savior. Then 6 months later Gabriel appeared to Elisabeth’s cousin Mary and told her that her son would be the Savior of all mankind. Angels attended Christ throughout his life, “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels,” Matthew 16:27 of King James Version of the Bible. Angels appeared to the shepherds watching their flocks on the night the Savior was born and proclaimed, Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men. An angel also warns the little family to flee to Egypt and tells them when it is finally safe to return. In Luke 24 we also read of two angels announcing Christ’s resurrection.

Guardian Angel Prayer, from the Catholic Forum.

Guardian Angel from heaven so bright,

Watching beside me to lead me aright,

Fold your wings ’round me,

and guard me with love,

Softly sing songs to me

of heaven above.

Amen.

Guardian Angels.

There are many references to angels throughout the New Testament but no clear statement as to their nature or their relation to mankind in general.

Guardian Angels are said to protect and guide not just children. Honorius of Autun believed that every soul was assigned a guardian angel. In Catholicism it is believed that a guardian angel represents individuals before God, watches over them always, aids their prayers and presents their souls to God at death.

Angels are said to be Immortal spirits that appear to mankind at important moments in their lives. They appear as messengers of god, bringing comfort, warnings and tests of belief and deliverance.

In art Guardian Angels are depicted as very feminine and beautiful and sometimes with maternal attributes. Guardian Angels are typically painted wearing simple tunic style gowns in soft pastel colors or all white. Angels are most always painted with wings, their wings are said to represent their role as messengers of God. They are also often shown with musical instruments. The most popular being a harp or a some type of horn or trumpet.

Guardian Angels have been used as symbols of Christmas in the form of figurines, ornaments, Christmas tree toppers, Christmas cards and even Christmas cookies. One of the most popular uses for angels at Christmas is to include them in your nativity scene. One is typically hung above the Nativity Stable but they can also stand or kneel anywhere within the scene.

I think the most popular use of angels at Christmas is in music. A lot of the songs that we sing every year at Christmas time tell the story of angels announcing the Saviors birth. Some of those include, ‘Angels We Have Heard On High’ ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’ and ‘It Came Upon a Midnight Clear’.

Houston Pastor Pens First Book

May 30th, 2008 ToddA. Posted in Religion No Comments »

We have all been at a crossroad at some time in our life. Whether it is the death of loved one, losing a job, or a natural disaster, we have all come to a point in our life when we feel that we cannot go on, and the struggles of life are simply too much to bear.

Over the last five years, this great nation has survived the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and devastating hurricanes such as Katrina in the summer of 2005. However, throughout every tragedy we have endured, it seems that people have made it through the storms of life, and overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles by leaning on faith to survive the journey of life.

Nevertheless, many people do not know where to turn when their life turns upside down.

Where do you go when you lose the financial security that you relied on so heavily? Where do you go when you lose that spouse that was the rock and foundation of your family? What do you do when you have tried everything to get your life on track, but you just cannot seem to get a brand new start? Ralph Douglas West, founder and senior pastor of Brookhollow Baptist Church in Houston, recently released his much-anticipated book Finding Fullness Again, which teaches readers what the biblical Book of Ruth instructs people to do when you are looking for a fresh start after overcoming tragedies in life.

After the death of her husband and two sons, the biblical figure Naomi believes she cannot stand the trials and tribulations that life throws her way. She had always counted on her late husband Elimelech for emotional and financial support, and without him in her life; she did not believe that she had the strength to carry on.

Unfortunately, Naomi had put all of her faith in her family and material things, and simply did not have much hope for the future.

However, through West’s book, readers learn that the biblical Book of Ruth teaches us that every person deserves a new beginning. Naomi’s story teaches us how to survive when poverty invades our wealth. It teaches us that God’s love is the most important thing in life, not material possessions or even family.

West emphasizes that life deals harshly with anyone who substitutes material possessions for spiritual vitality. He states, “Maybe your past is casting an elongated shadow over your present as well as your future. It seems you can’t escape disappointments … Probably you have attempted to forget and move forward, only to be reminded of what you left behind. If this describes your situation, let me recommend that … New beginnings have everything to do with reorientation of attitude.”

Ruth persuaded her mother-in-law Naomi to allow her to move back to Bethlehem so she could regain some resemblance to her former family life after the death of her husband, Naomi’s son.

While in Bethlehem she met an eligible bachelor by the name of Boaz, and Ruth was able to repair her broken heart and start a new family.

Finding Fullness Again teaches that the adversity we sometimes face is simply God trying to prepare us for a future blessing and our spiritual purpose in life.

“The story points to the truth that men do not control events, but the hands of God is working his purpose out. Often new beginnings are immersed in waters of adversity,” West said. Not only did Ruth receive a blessing with a new husband and child, she became an ancestor of Jesus Christ.

Choosing Ruth, a Gentile, to be a part of Jesus’ lineage is significant because it suggested that no matter what ones background is, God can use that person for a divine purpose in life.

Although Naomi was initially against Ruth accompanying her to Bethlehem after the death of her two sons, Ruth showed Naomi the truth meaning of faith and loyalty as she gave birth to Obed and allowed Naomi to be his nurse, giving her another chance at a family.

Although peoples’ struggles may vary, West’s book Finding Fullness Again informs readers that no matter how difficult the times may be, there is always hope for a better future when you include God in your battle.

Whether one is battling a drug addiction, alcoholism, or some other external force, ones past mistakes and disappointments will never prohibit them from being granted a brand new start if God is the head of their life. It is important to remember when it feels like you are running on empty; you can always find fullness again with a little help from God.

Spirituality - The Truth About Fairies- Are Fairies Real?

May 29th, 2008 LynNichols Posted in Religion No Comments »

Fairies are Nature Angels, the lowest manifestation within the Angelic Hierarchy. They, along with Nereids, Gnomes, Salamanders, Undines and Elves make up the Elementals. Fairies are tiny energy beings that are transported from place to place by their dragonfly or butterfly-like wings. They are the Guardian Angels of animals and nature, therefore their purpose is to ensure the health and safety of all plants, trees, animals and Mother Earth. Sprites are wingless water fairies- they are protectors of the water ways and guardians of the waterbirds and water animals.

Fairies, unlike other angels, have a very light etheric physical body. This is because they live on a denser astral plane, closer to our physical plane than other angels, who exist higher up in the spiritual realm. Human Beings live on the densest astral plane of all, then the plants and animals and just above them, the fairies and other elementals. Because they live on this dense level, they are half incarnated, half in the spirit world. As with other incarnated beings, they live in a world of illusion and therefore, a world experienced via the ego.

Fairies exist around trees and plants, preferring wildflowers and natural bush settings. They feel the pain inflicted upon plants, trees and animals and their physical bodies are harmed by our pesticides and cleaning agents. By refusing to use these harmful products, we are not only helping the environment but we are being kind to the fairies and helping them to fulfil their purpose. With every little thing we do to preserve and protect nature and the animals, every bit of rubbish we pick up, every item we rinse and re-cycle, every product we buy that is free-range and with every product we purchase and eat that is organic, we are helping the fairies! The fairies want us to ‘say no to pesticides and cruelty to animals’. The elementals can sense when a human has genuine concern for the environment and they will regard you highly for this.

Fairies are emotionally and physically sensitive to the thoughts and emotions of humans. They have great healing abilities which we feel the benefits of when we are out in nature or close to animals. When we spend time in nature, the fairies can clear the negativity from our energy fields (auras), leaving us feeling more vibrant and refreshed.

Fairies have been misperceived over the years as naughty and even nasty, this is because they have been compared to angels. It is unfair to make this comparison as the fairies live in the densest energy and have to contend with an ego. The truth is, fairies are very loving beings who have a very important job to do. They take their purpose seriously and can get agitated and annoyed when people are purposely cruel to animals or have no regard for nature and the environment, which by the way, is their home.

The truth is- fairies are just as real and just as loving as all of the other angels. Next time you are out in nature have a thought for these little beings and when you come back feeling refreshed give thanks for the healing you just received – free of charge. In return, maybe you could invest in some chemical free cleaning agents or find some other way to help the environment!

Kundalini Energy And Spiritual Enlightenment

May 29th, 2008 LynNichols Posted in Religion No Comments »

The Kundalini Energy is the basic evolutionary force in every individual. It’s purpose is to drive us to reach for enlightenment. This energy lays coiled at the base of the spine until released, where the natural flow is then up the spine and out the top of the head, cleaning and refining the cells in the body as it goes and removing any energy blocks in its way. We all have a certain amount of this energy available to us at birth and throughout our life, but laying dormant, awaiting its release, is an abundance which we are able to consciously activate if desired, speeding up our evolution. A number of layers of the Kundalini energy are naturally released throughout a person’s lifetime, depending on the readiness and personal growth of the individual. This release happens without our knowledge, bringing us new spiritual awareness, psychic abilities, blissfull states and a general feeling of enlightenment.

Energy blocks throughout the body are caused by old emotional issues, stubborn attitudes and un-forgiveness, negative life experiences and poor posture. These energy blocks have a major influence on incorrect flow of this energy force. When the flow of Kundalini is blocked in its upward journey from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, it automatically restarts the upward motion, this time concentrating on the blocked areas as it goes. This process can cause physical and emotional problems and can take years to complete. For people who are unaware of this evolutionary force, the side effects of the Kundalini Energy can be mistaken for other physical problems.

The Kundalini cleansing can cause symptoms such as unexplained flu-like illnesses, chills or hot flushes mistaken for menopause, erratic behaviour, excessive mood swings, distortion or loss of memory, extremes in appearance – looking young one day and old the next, visual effects such as seeing lights or colours, geometric shapes or scenes from past lives or the future. It can create a feeling of losing control and with that feeling, the difficulty coping with everyday life. These overwhelming side effects of the Kundalini cleansing process can leave the individual confused and unsure of what it is they are wanting out of life, creating many marriage problems and being the catalyst to many a mid life crisis.

Involuntary release (where a person is not consciously trying to activate more Kundalini) can be caused by a variety of things such as a severe blow or injury to the tailbone, drug use, overwork, excessive fear, trauma, grief, excessive sex and even excessive meditation.

Voluntary release of more Kundalini energy can be achieved by a variety of visualisation, meditative and physical exercises.

To aid the Kundalini in it’s role of cleansing and refining the cells of the body and for our own comfort throughout this process, it is suggested that we do all we can in providing a clear path for the energy in it’s journey from the base of the spine upward and out the crown of the head. There are several things we can do to help with this process such as, clearing our chakras regularly of energy blocks via visualisation techniques, taking notice of and dealing with thoughts and feelings rather than continually blocking them out re-creating energy blocks, spend time in nature and take up a creative hobby. Nurture your body with nutritious foods free of preservatives and chemical additives and regular exercise during Kundalini cleansing is extremely important. Gain knowledge regarding this process so that you are aware of what is happening to your body and mind, know that this is an evolutionary process and enjoy the journey that is taking you one step closer to enlightenment.

Spirituality - Our Divine Psychic Gifts- Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, Clairsentience

May 29th, 2008 LynNichols Posted in Religion No Comments »

A Psychic is a person who has the ability to communicate, in a variety of ways, with the Spirit World. When we come into this earthly world as babies we all possess these abilities, but as we grow and are gradually re-programmed with other people’s beliefs, slowly these gifts disappear and by the age of12 most of us have forgotten that we possess these amazing abilities. A psychic is an individual that has never forgotten, or has re-discovered their sixth sensory abilities and is able to connect with the spirit realm to give readings of past present and future to others. There is a number of ways in which a psychic will communicate with the spirit world, they are as follows:

Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing) A Clairvoyant possesses the psychic ability to see clearly into the future by reading the aura of a living person. They have the ability to see into the spiritual dimension, allowing them to connect and receive messages from spirit beings. This usually means that they see the spirit communicating in their minds eye although some Clairvoyants can see Spirits with their physical eyes, as if there is another person in the same room as themselves. In a clairvoyant reading, the Clairvoyant will describe what they are seeing to whoever is having the reading, it is often animals and sometimes objects that will be given to the Clairvoyant to be interpreted symbolically, this is why when having a reading, the client needs to work with the clairvoyant to understand what the spirit is trying to communicate to them.

Clairaudient (Clear Hearing) A clairaudient is an individual that has the ability to perceive sounds, words or music from the spiritual realm. Being clairaudient is a form of channeling messages from the spirit world into our dimension. With this form of Mediumship the person hears the spirit communicating with them. This can be voices in the Mediums head or thoughts running through the mind. Sometimes a Medium will actually hear someone talking to them with their physical ears.

Clairsentience (Clear Feeling) This is the inner sense of ‘knowing’. It is probably the most familiar psychic strength and enables us to feel the energy of others. It is often described as a gut feeling. Most people who are Clairsentient are quite sensitive, receiving other people’s emotions which can then have a negative or positive effect on their own life. Clairsentients feel the need to touch things including other people. The intuitive response of clairsentience can inform us when someone is untrustworthy, even though they may appear to be fine on the outside. Young children are still in tune with this natural ability so have the knack of knowing who to and not to trust.

Clairsentients often feel as if they are being touched or they may witness cold or slight breezes wafting past them. Sometimes they can have the feeling of cobwebs on their face or can smell fragrances associated with the spirits time on earth.

A clairsentient can read “auras” of people and objects to discover their personal histories, they feel or just know things about a person or situation. A clairsentient can sense the presence of spirits and discover events surrounding that individual’s death.

Spiritual Beings - The Angels, Archangels & Elementals

May 29th, 2008 LynNichols Posted in Religion No Comments »

Angels are beings of light who have chosen to undertake their learning purely on the spiritual plane. They bring forth messages from the Creator to help us remember who we are, that we too are spiritual beings even though we have chosen to take on physical form. They are sent to us from the Divine to guide us through our human lifetime and to keep us safe for the duration of our earthly contract, ensuring it is not terminated before our life’s purpose is fulfilled.

They are ready to assist us as soon as we say the word, with any issue large or small, to angels there is no order of difficulty. Their wish for us is to feel peace, love and joy and to know that they exist. Angels are free from gender, having a balance of both masculine and feminine energy. They never incarnate as humans, unlike Spirit Guides who have lived in human form at some stage.

In the Angelic Realm there is a heirarchy that is believed to go like this:

Heavenly Councillors - said to work closest to the Divine Energy. They include Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones.

Seraphim – are the most highly evolved angels whose work involves the planets, stars and other heavenly bodies.

Cherubim – work with light and colour energy. Because our souls vibrate at a higher rate than our physical bodies the Cherubim transform intense divine light into light which our physical bodies can tolerate. The bridge of light that is created allows us to have direct communication with our guides and angels, it allows us to safely have spiritual experiences.

Thrones – work in conjunction with the Seraphin and their job is to govern the planets. Each planet has it’s own Throne, the Earth Throne controls climatic disasters such as droughts and earthquakes and keeps balance regarding species.

Heavenly Governors.

Dominions – are the teachers of evolving angels. Their job is to assist the guardian angels with the wellbeing of the human they are assigned to.

Virtues – are the angels who respond to our requests for healing, they direct spiritual energy to where it is requested.

Powers – watch over birth and death and rebirth, they guard the Akashic records (records of each souls evolutionary journey – throughout all reincarnations).

Messenger Angels

Principalities – govern and guard nations, cities and large organizations. They are like the bigwigs of the messenger angels. Invoke them when you feel the need for extra strong assistance.

Archangels – oversee the guardian angels. They can be invoked to assist us regarding our life’s purpose, for healing, safety and blessings.

Guardian Angels – are assigned to us throughout our whole earthly journey, from the second of conception to beyond death where they stay with us and guide us as we re-adapt to life in the spirit realm. Their job is to protect and guide us without interfering with our free will.

The Archangels are given traditional names and all have a certain quality. Some of the most well known of the Archangels are Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, Raphael, Ariel, Azrael, Chamuel, Haniel, Jeremiel, Zadkiel, Jophiel, Metatron, Raguel, Raziel and Sandalphon.

Elementals – encompass flower fairies, gnomes, salamanders, undines and elves. These are the lowest energy manifestation in the angelic hierarchy. They live the closest to earth and are the only angels with an ego, due to their lower energy vibration. They are environmental angels and are associated with nature, the plants, trees, animals and elements.

Devas – guard certain aspects of nature such as the trees, rocks, forests, plants, rivers, the seasons, fertility, seedtime and harvest. They sometimes guard buildings and areas of sacred energy within the earth.

Ascended Masters – are spiritual beings that once lived as a human on the earth and were great healers, leaders and teachers - they continue to help us today in spirit form. These include Jesus, Buddha, Moses, Mary, Yogananda, Quan Yin, Ashtar and the saints. We can call on them to help us at anytime.

**If you are really serious about your spiritual journey and changing your life for the better, read and practice ‘A Course In Miracles,’ Free at most spiritual churches.

Below we have outlined some basic steps you can work on right away to get you heading in the right direction.

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION – is the most powerful Law in the Universe. It states ‘that which is like unto itself, is drawn.’’

Your thoughts are what have created your reality up until now and what will create your reality for the rest of your earthly existence. You will be astounded, when you start taking notice, of the amount of negative thoughts you have every single hour of the day. What you think about is what you get, whether it is positive or negative. If the Universe hears your thoughts of lack, the Universe will make sure you receive more lack, if the Universe hears your thoughts of abundance, the Universe will make sure you have abundance in your life.

First and foremost on this amazing journey you have begun, take notice of what you are thinking and what your emotions are telling you. As soon as you notice a negative thought or bad feeling, stop yourself right there and then and turn it into a positive affirmation. We all have so many negative programmes in our subconscious mind that have been given to us by our parents and other adult influences in our life during childhood, (this is not their fault, they are just passing on the beliefs they have been given from their parents etc). We accept these programmes as ‘Truth’ when they are really just the opinion of someone we looked up to. These programmes play out for the rest of our life if we don’t take conscious control to change them. The best way of doing this is to watch our thoughts and emotions and practice positive thinking and affirmations every day of our life. Slowly but surely we are able to re-programme our mind, changing negative beliefs that hinder our life experiences to positive beliefs of self worth and love, enabling us to live a more fulfilled life, attracting positive loving experiences into our daily existence. So if you catch yourself thinking a negative thought such as ‘I have a bad relationship or I am so broke’, immediately turn this into a positive thought such as ‘I have a happy, loving relationship or, I now have an abundance of money’, Any affirmation will do as long as it turns the negative into a positive. It doesn’t matter if you don’t really believe it initially, if you say it regularly enough, the subconscious will start believing it and begin attracting it to you.

We cannot stress enough the importance of monitoring your thoughts and emotions. You will be amazed at how this one daily practice alone can change your whole life. You will find that when you practice this relentlessly, the negative situations in your life that were attracted via your own negative thought patterns will just drop away or you will gain extra strength and courage to just walk away knowing that you have the ability to co-create any life you desire. Our thoughts are magnetic energy attracting to us whatever we are thinking about.

Our EMOTIONS are our spiritual guidance system to see us through this human experience. Trust your emotions – start taking notice of what you feel, the repetitive thoughts and gut feelings you have been receiving. Believe it or not, this is your psychic guidance. We all have these repetitive feelings and thoughts, it’s just whether or not we choose to take notice of them. If we do not take notice of our negative emotions, we cause disharmony or blockages in our energy systems, which eventually turn into dis-ease in the physical body. We believe that at the core of all physical illness there is emotional blockage or disharmony. Via natural therapies that work on the emotions, we can access these blockages, make the necessary changes in our life and free ourselves of illness and disease.

LOVE YOURSELF. The Majority of us are bought up thinking it is wrong to love ourselves, that we are vain if we even like ourself! This programme sets us up for so much heartache in our life. The truth is, if we don’t love ourselves, we cannot truly love anyone else. Until we love ourself unconditionally, we are constantly looking for fulfillment in other people, especially our partners, which can only lead to disappointment and heartache. When we can honestly say we love every part of ourselves, we will automatically stop judging others. It is then that we realise, we are all perfect in spirit and doing the best we can in this human existence with the programmes we have been given in childhood. When we can just accept without judgement, we really start to understand the term ‘Inner Peace’. It is then and only then, we can truly forgive others for the wrongs we think they have done to us throughout our life - often becoming the cause of lifelong pain and eventually illness or dis-ease of our physical body.

MEDITATE. By meditating we are nurturing our body, mind and spirit. If we spend 20 minutes meditating every day we will soon reap the rewards. We become more peaceful throughout the day and sleep more soundly at night. Things that would normally upset us start to just wash over us - the peace is too lovely for us to let these little incidents interfere with it. Anxiety and other fear based emotions will drop away as we become aware that we are connected to the Creator and the Abundance of the Universe, leaving us feeling safe and peaceful. Our own spiritual guidance becomes stronger and we become more in tune with our own Psychic gifts. Don’t waste anymore time, start meditating today!!!!!

LIVE IN THE NOW. When we live for today, life becomes so much less stressful. Really, all that there is, is NOW. None of us even know if tomorrow will ever come, so why do we spend so much time worrying about tomorrow instead of making the most of what we know we do have and filling our days with laughter and love. If there is only NOW, then there is no yesterday, no past and no reason to be angry at anybody. When we can release all anger from our body we will certainly feel the benefits. Holding on the anger and un-forgiveness is debilitating to our physical and emotional bodies. I read once that the most selfish thing we can ever do is to forgive. I truly understand that now, forgiveness equals freedom! (If we are holding on to anger we need to work on loving ourself!!). If there is no tomorrow, no future, no reason to stress about bills and money, no reason to worry about what’s going to happen to……etc. THERE IS ONLY TODAY, LIVE IN THE NOW.

THE FOUR AGREEMENTS – is a fabulous book I recently read that states that our minds have been poisoned by the programming of others. If we live by these four agreements we can start to free ourselves from this poison and live joyful, loving, and peaceful lives.

“Be Immaculate in your word” – only say what you mean, take control over your words, the words you say to others and the words you say to yourself. Your words are your thoughts and therefore create your reality, so only say what you mean.

“Don’t take anything personally” – what people say to you comes from their own programming. What they say is not really about you, it is about them, so don’t take it personally, they are living in a different world to you.

“Don’t make assumptions” - Don’t assume anything, we don’t really know what people are thinking, or what they are going to do. By assuming, we blow things up in our minds and make mountains out of molehills causing unnecessary stress and anger.

“Always do your best” - When we do our best it doesn’t matter if we make a mistake, our inner critic or judge cannot criticize us if we have done our best. If we always do our best at whatever we do and others criticise us, it doesn’t matter, we know we have done all that we can do. Our inner judge or critic can be so cruel, if we always do our best, they lose the power to make us feel bad.

If we would all live our lives by these 4 Agreements the world would surely be a more peacefull and loving place. Enjoy your spiritual journey!!!

Saint Vincent Depaul An Example Of Charity

May 19th, 2008 ElizabethGuide Posted in Religion No Comments »

Vincent de Paul, The saint of charitable societies, was born in Pouy, Gascony, France around 1580. His parents Jean de Paul and Bertrande de Moras were farmers who raised four sons and two daughters. Vincent was very intelligent at a young age when his father decided to send him away to the Cordelier Brothers at Dax. He attended the school for four years when he tutored the children of a lawyer. Vincent was able to continue his studies without any expenses to bother his parents with. He then attended the Spanish University of Saragossa to further his education, and later decided to return to France and attend the University of Toulouse where he got the degree of Theology.

Vincent was traveling on a boat when pirates who were menace of all Mediterranean shipping attacked them with arrows after refusing to strike their flag. He was wounded and taken captive to Tunis, Africa and there sold as a slave. This was a major life turning point in his life. He was purchased by a fisherman and then sold again to a Moslem. He grew to enjoy the presence of his slave. Vincent prayed for protection and especially for intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was terrified of his faith becoming corrupted while in the alien environment.

Continuing standing firm in his faith, Vincent also continued living with his slave owner until he died, when then he had a new owner, the master’s nephew. He yet again was sold to a Mohammedanism who had three wives. Among the wives was a Turkish woman. She often came around the slave while he was at work. She would ask him to sing songs in praise of his heavenly father out of curiosity. The woman would go to her husband and ask what the reasoning was behind turning away from his religion. She eventually made the slave owner return to his original religion while staying with hers. He repented and he and Vincent escaped Africa together. They made their way across the Mediterranean safely and landed eventually near Marseilles in June of 1607. The both of them ventured to Rome and became apart of the Brothers of St. John of God and served in hospitals.

Returning to France, Vincent became the almoner of Queen Marguerite of Valois. He roomed in the same house of a lawyer, who was robbed and convicted him of the crime. Vincent did nothing but deny the charge and quoted, “God knows the truth.” Finally after a long hard six years of slander the actual thief confessed of the crime. This became a testimony of his, proving that patience, silence, and resignation was the only way to defend the innocent.

Later he became a pastor of a neglected and abandoned church. He started a regular worship and brought life back into the run down church. He converted a popular amount of aristocrats from their lifestyles to those of God. While doing this it still didn’t complete the passion he had with helping the suffering. He began to help the sick in everyway he could. The Ladies of Charity helped him in many ways, to collect money and also to help him attend for the sick. This they did very well.

Catechism Gives Blueprint To Catholics

May 19th, 2008 ElizabethGuide Posted in Religion No Comments »

The word catechism as a variety of meanings however the most accepted one comes from Greek and means to Echo. In this application it is a way to echo or repeat the tenants of the Catholic Church. Prior to the invention of the printing press in the 1400s , the beliefs and tradition of the church were handed down verbally. They asked people to repeat them over and over until they were learned, like an echo. Even in the time of Jesus the teacher taught scriptures by asking again and again for them to be repeated, until they were learned. This was a common way of teaching even before the time of Jesus. But this again invoked the Echo theme.

After the invention of the printing press, it changed the way things could be taught. The beliefs were written down and there was many question and answer books to help with the catechesis process. In the 15th century the influential catechisms of St/ Peter and St. Rober Bellarmine became the mainstay of the catechesis process.

But it wasn’t until the 90s that Vatican II framer, Pope John Paul II recognized something that many overlooked. The young post Vatican II Catholic was severely under catechized and with that in Oct of 1992, he published an apostolic constitution the Deposit of Faith which announced the need for a Catechism of the Catholic Church. The date of his release coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Vatican II. The Catechism of the The Catholic Church goal was to fill in all the missing information that most Catholics no longer know by rote memory. It gave a way for every Catholic family to have a desktop reference for any question their children may ask or any friend of another faith. Many of these persons of other faith still attempt to challenge us and now with the Catechism, any Catholic is armed in answer those questions.

As many look back since Vatican II there is an paradigm shift in the church that moved from self to community. Then Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, who later became known as Pope John Paul II, in the writing of the Vatican II documents said that to help yourself you had to help others and outlined a framework that spoke of the acts of helping others would help one’s self. The other shifts in the church though are what allowed the Pope to say we need a Catechism written that would allow Catholics a reference of their faith. He saw the Catechism as a reference of Catholic Doctrine, which was something that was lacking.

In tandem, the US bishops also set to work writing a comprehensive version for the United States Catholics. The format is dramatically different although the message is the same. In June of 2000 they under took the task of creating a Catechism that is uniquely American. This book was to address the local situation and culture but preserved the unity and fidelity of the faith in its teaching found in Pope John Paul II’s catechism and gave a more readable book format of the desktop reference out of the Vatican.

Conspiracy Theories From A Biblical Perspective

May 18th, 2008 DuaneMiller Posted in Religion No Comments »

Introduction

Recently I have had a discussion online over the idea of various conspiracy theories that are floating around on the internet. The particular theory that came my way basically states that the United States is no longer the United States, and that there are plans to mass imprison people who do not follow along with the U.S. Government in coming future events. These future events are tied in closely to biblical prophecy relating to eschatology (theological doctrine of the “last things” or the end of the world) before the return of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

As a result of my email conversation, I thought it is important to post something upon this topic. In this short paper we will see how conspiracy theories affect our spiritual walk by the following: (i) causing one to sin, (ii) lashon hara and communication rooted in unholiness, and (iii) not truly trusting in the Most High G-d.

What is a conspiracy theory?

To believe a conspiracy theory is to believe the ultimate cause of an event or a chain of events and/or the concealment of such (ranging from public knowledge to a secret and often deceptive plot) is performed by a powerful or influential people or organizations. Therefore, the majority of conspiracy theories imply that major events in history have been dominated by conspirators, people or organizations who manipulate events behind the scenes.

The etymology of “conspiracy” is Middle English conspiracie, from Latin conspirare, and means it is the act of conspiring together; an agreement among conspirators. Conspiracy means “an agreement between two or more persons to commit an unlawful act to accomplish a lawful end by unlawful means” (Britannica Concise Encyclopedia).

Discussion

You know the only thing I can think is “conspiracy…conspiracy…conspiracy.” Have you ever looked online to find anything on conspiracy theories? www.google.com will give you around 650,500 hits on the words “conspiracy theories.” The next thing I did was look for anything written on the problems of conspiracy theories or the problems with listening to conspiracy theories. There is virtually nothing on the topic. I think there are a few reasons why people choose to believe in conspiracy theories, one is it gives one the sense of satisfaction of being smart enough to have figured it all out.

The problem however what is occurring in reality, these theories are projecting their fictional musings onto real-life people, events, families, organizations, groups, etc. So, these theories are sold as politics, similar to the polemic of Adolf Hitler, he was a master of weaving conspiracy tales. We see this throughout history taking for example Nero who blamed the Christians for burning Rome or even in the B’rit HaChadashah (New Testament) how the leaders devised a conspiracy theory to explain away the empty tomb (disciples carried him away). It is my opinion that the Conspiracy theory no matter what it is … is rooted in unholiness.

These tales inflame the fears and paranoia of people to the extent that anything can happen taking for example World War 1 & 2 that took place back in the mid-twentieth century. In fact, people even get a sort of perverse enjoyment from retelling the tales of paranoia, supposed “insight,” fear, discontentment, etc which this propaganda promotes. So, you maybe asking, “Why do you say this is rooted in unholiness?” Let’s look at and see what the Torah has to say:

Leviticus 19:16

19:16 “‘Do not go around spreading slander among your people, but also don’t stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is at stake; I am ADONAI. (CJB)

Exodus 23:1

23:1 “You are not to repeat false rumors; do not join hands with the wicked by offering perjured testimony. (CJB)

The scriptures speak of “gossip” as one who connives, dreams up, and twists truth that is compelling and masquerades as wisdom. There is perverted sweetness to this deception which is the primary lure of committing this sin of gossip. The main point here in what I want to say is how do these theories honor the Most High God in Heaven? Fear, worry, and discontentment take us away from one of the most important things in our spiritual lives which are to “Trust” in Him … to Trust in the Lord God Almighty and to pray.

Conclusion

When this conspiracy theory came to me via email about the United States of America, I was saddened because this information was being perpetuated by leaders in the Christian community. This is nothing less than promoting gossip and slander which is the very definition of lashon hara, even lashon hara against our enemies. (See http://www.torahresource.com/EnglishArticles/Leshon%20Hara.pdf for more information on lashon hara) I believe that lashon hara is a sin, even if it is against our enemies. As the Children of the Most High G-d we have to live exemplary lives, which include what we say and even what we think. Ultimately, the decision has to be made on an individual basis, do we trust in the Lord or do we spread conspiracy theories and enjoy the sweetness of gossip?

I am not saying that we should be unaware of what is taking place in this world; but we need to know the truth, discern what is a lie, and be knowledgeable about what is gossip and slander so that we can walk spotless before the Lord.

Ephesians 5:6-13

5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty talk; for it is because of these things that God’s judgment is coming on those who disobey him. 5:7 So don’t become partners with them! 5:8 For you used to be darkness; but now, united with the Lord, you are light. Live like children of light, 5:9 for the fruit of the light is in every kind of goodness, rightness and truth - 5:11 Have nothing to do with the deeds produced by darkness, but instead expose them, 5:12 for it is shameful even to speak of the things these people do in secret. 5:13 But everything exposed to the light is revealed clearly for what it is, (CJB)
